What is Dolby Atmos
Dolby Atmos is an advanced audio technology that creates a three-dimensional sound experience. It goes beyond traditional surround sound by adding height channels, allowing sound to be precisely positioned in a 3D space around the listener. This immersive audio format enhances the sense of depth and realism in movies, games, TV shows, and now music. With Dolby Atmos, sound can move dynamically, providing a more stimulating audio experience, whether you're listening through speakers or headphones. It has gained popularity in cinemas, home theatres, and even on mobile devices, offering an immersive audio experience for a wide range of entertainment content
Up-mixing your old stereo tracks for Atmos
Up-mixing for Atmos refers to the process of converting audio content that was originally mixed in a different format, such as stereo, into an Atmos-compatible format. The goal of up-mixing is to create a more immersive experience by utilising the additional channels and object-based capabilities of Atmos.
The aim is to create a convincing and seamless transition from the original stereo mix to the expanded Atmos format, providing a more immersive experience that takes advantage of the additional height and object-based audio capabilities offered by Atmos.
For this to be achieved, you need to obtain the original music stems of your recordings. This means each element of the recording can be individually placed in the Atmos environment. If you only have the original stereo mater, you can still convert this to an Atmos, however you will not be able to place instruments separately across the Atmos environment.
Listening to a Dolby Atmos ADM File
Dolby ADM files are typically used for advanced audio mixing and post-production. To listen to a Dolby ADM file, you'll need compatible software or hardware that supports the decoding and playback of ADM content. Some professional digital audio workstations (DAW's) may have built-in support to play ADM files. Additionally, certain media players or audio processing tools designed for Dolby formats may also be capable of playing ADM files. It's recommended to consult the documentation or support resources for your specific software or hardware to determine if it supports Dolby ADM files and how to properly play them.
Billing/Prices
Please contact us for an individualised quote that will be specific to your project. The scope and detail of your project will tend to determine the overall cost of the production and a reduction in the price can be negotiated if the project will be recurring or longer in duration.
Free Services
More often than not, I am happy to negotiate a fair and reasonable price to try and fit within your budget and on occasion I may offer my services for free. But this offer is usually when I have a strong personal interest or connection to the project. I am also happy to negotiate any sales percentages or royalties to be paid at a later time for any upfront free work. (However, this does not apply to mixing singles or solo artist releases)
